For the cake:
Preaheat the oven to 180 degrees. Grease a heartshaped cake mold in with butter and flour.
In a large bowl mingle the sugar, flour, cacao, baking soda and powder and salt.
Add in the eggs, milk, oil and vanilla extract. Mix a few minutes in the KitchenAid or with electric mixer.
Add the coffee. The batter will remain quite liquid.
Pour the batter into the mold. You will have enough batter to fill the mold twice.
Bake for 30 minutes in the oven until an inserted knife comes out clean.
For the chocolate frosting:
Cream the room temperature butter in the KitchenAid for a few minutes, intil you obtain a creamy and fluffy consistency. Add the remaining ingredients. Keep mixing. You should obtain a rather thick frosting.
Layer the cake:
When both cakes ar baked, wait until they are completely cooled down.
Place chocolate frosting in the middle of the cake and start spreading. Then place the other cake on top. Use the remaining frosting to cover the rest of the cake. To smoothen it out you can dipp your spatula in some hot water.
Decorate as you wish with sprinkles.
I let my daughter's imagination run free for this one. :-)
Happy Valentine's Day & Buon Appetito!
